The Deadbolt and the Divine

The heavy metallic click of the deadbolt sliding into place echoed through the small bedroom like a final closing statement. Percy leaned his forehead against the cool wood of the door for a single, shaky breath. The muffled sounds of Thalia’s receding tirade in the hallway were finally cut off, leaving the room in a thick, charged silence that tasted of salt, lingering smoke, and the electric remnants of their interrupted adrenaline.

He turned around, his chest still heaving, the white sheet draped precously low on his hips. Annabeth was still sitting on the edge of the mattress, her light brown boho braids falling over the shoulders of his oversized grey hoodie. She looked small, but her eyes—dark, dilated, and defiant—were fixed on him with a heat that made the hair on his arms stand up.

"They're gone," Percy whispered, his voice rasping.

"Good," Annabeth replied. She reached up, grabbing the hem of the hoodie and pulling it over her head in one smooth motion, tossing it toward the pile of popcorn Thalia had spilled. She sat there in the amber light, her brown skin glowing, completely unashamed. "Because if I have to hear one more lecture about my 'potential' tonight, I’m going to lose my mind. I don't want to be a genius right now, Percy. I just want to be yours."

Percy didn't need to be told twice. He crossed the small space in three strides, his knees hitting the mattress as he crawled toward her. He reached out, his large hands cupping her face, his thumbs tracing the line of her cheekbones. He kissed her then, not with the frantic desperation of before, but with a slow, possessive intensity that claimed every inch of her.

Annabeth moaned into his mouth, her hands sliding up his chest to tangle in his blonde curls, pulling him closer until there wasn't a sliver of air between them. Percy shifted, pushing her back onto the pillows. He didn't go straight for the finish; the interruption had left them both wired, and he wanted to draw out the feeling of reclaiming the space that their friends had tried to violate.

He moved his lips to her ear, his breath hot. "I’m going to make you forget they were ever here, Wise Girl."

"Prove it," she challenged, her voice a low, gravelly command.

Percy drifted down, his mouth finding the sensitive curve of her neck, biting softly enough to leave a mark that would definitely require a scarf on Monday. His hands wandered, rediscovering the soft curve of her waist and the flare of her hips. He took his time, his fingers tracing the intricate patterns of her braids where they rested against her skin, before sliding lower.

He used his tongue and his teeth to map out the landscape of her body, lingering on the swell of her breasts and the valley of her stomach. Annabeth arched beneath him, her breath coming in short, jagged hitches. The weed was still humming in her blood, making every touch feel magnified, every sensation echoing through her like a plucked string.

"Percy," she gasped, her fingers digging into his biceps. "Please. I need... I need you back."

He looked up at her, his blue eyes dark with a primal sort of focus. He reached for the nightstand, fumbling for a moment before returning to her. He didn't just rush in. He used his thumb to circle her center, watching her face as her eyes rolled back, her lips parting to let out a long, shaky whine. He teased her, his movements rhythmic and agonizingly slow, until she was sobbing his name into the quiet room.

When he finally moved over her, bracing himself on his elbows, the look of pure adoration on his face made Annabeth’s heart ache. He entered her with a single, deep thrust that forced a sharp cry of relief from her throat.

"There," Percy whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You okay?"

"Don't stop," she begged, her legs locking around his waist, pulling him in as deep as he could go. "Don't ever stop."

The rhythm they found was primal and perfect. Percy moved with a steady, driving force, his blonde curls damp with sweat as he watched her. He wanted to see every flicker of pleasure on her face, every flush of color on her skin. He leaned down, his chest rubbing against hers, the friction of their skin creating a heat that felt like it might spontaneously combust.

He began to whisper to her, his voice a low vibration against her skin. He told her how much he loved the way she thought, how much he loved the way she looked in the morning, and exactly what he wanted to do to her for the next several hours. The words were dirty and sweet all at once, a private litany that belonged only to them.

Annabeth was lost in it. The world had shrunk to the size of this bed, the scent of Percy’s cologne, and the rhythmic creak of the springs. She felt every inch of him, the strength in his arms as he held himself above her, the way his muscles rippled under her touch. She reached up, her palms flat against his chest, feeling the frantic, matching thud of his heart.

"You're so much," she wheezed, her head tossing back and forth on the pillow. "Percy, you're too much."

"I've got you," he promised, his pace quickening. "I've got you, Annabeth."

As the minutes bled into an hour, the intensity only climbed. They shifted positions, Percy pulling her up until she was straddling him, her braids swinging like a silken curtain around them. She took control then, her movements fluid and confident, her eyes locked onto his. Percy groaned, his hands gripping her hips, guiding her, his head falling back against the headboard as he succumbed to the sensation of her.

The "soft balloon" feeling of the high had evolved into something heavy and golden. Annabeth felt like she was floating and sinking at the same time. She leaned forward, pressing her forehead against his, their breaths mingling in the dark.

"I love you," she whispered, the words catching in her throat. "I don't care what they say. I don't care about anything else."

Percy’s eyes snapped open, blazing with a sudden, fierce light. He flipped her back onto the mattress, his movements urgent now. He was reaching his limit, the tension in his body coiled like a spring. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his breath coming in ragged, desperate bursts.

"Annabeth," he groaned, his voice breaking. "I'm—I'm not going to make it."

"Don't pull out," she whispered, her voice a fierce command. She tightened her hold on him, her legs wrapping around him like a vice. "Stay. Stay inside me. I want all of it."

Percy didn't hesitate. He let out a low, guttural growl, his entire body shuddering as he delivered several deep, final thrusts. He felt the wave of his own release crashing over him, a blinding explosion of white light that seemed to shatter the rest of the world. He collapsed against her, his weight heavy and honest, as he came deep inside her, the heat of it radiating through them both.

Annabeth followed him seconds later, her body clenching around him in a series of rhythmic pulses that left her breathless and shaking. She clung to him, her face hidden in his shoulder, as the world slowly began to settle back into its foundations.

For a long time, neither of them moved. The only sound was the synchronized, heavy thrum of their breathing and the distant hum of the city that seemed so far away now. Percy shifted slightly, careful not to pull away, wanting to savor the closeness, the shared warmth, and the absolute silence of the apartment.

He eventually lifted his head, kissing her forehead, her eyelids, and finally her lips. "You still with me, Wise Girl?"

Annabeth opened her eyes, looking dazed and beautiful. A small, sleepy smile played on her lips. "I think I might be a permanent resident of the clouds now."

Percy chuckled, a low vibration in his chest. He rolled to the side, pulling her with him so they were tangled together under the messy sheets. He reached out, smoothing a stray braid away from her face.

"Thalia is going to kill me in the morning," he noted, though he didn't sound particularly worried.

"Let her try," Annabeth murmured, closing her eyes and pressing her face into the crook of his neck. "I’ll just tell her I was busy doing a site visit. Deep in the foundations."

Percy laughed, a genuine, light sound that filled the room. He pulled the duvet up over them, shielding them from the cooling air of the room. Outside, the world was still loud, still demanding, and still full of people who thought they knew what was best for them. But inside the room, behind the locked door and the heavy deadbolt, there was only the two of them, the lingering scent of high-grade kush, and a love that was far more structural than any building Annabeth would ever design.

"Sleep, Annabeth," Percy whispered, kissing her temple. "I've got the first watch."

"Seaweed Brain," she muttered, her voice trailing off into sleep.

Percy stayed awake for a while longer, watching the shadows of the city dance across the ceiling. He knew the morning would bring phone calls from Sally, more lectures from Luke, and probably a very physical confrontation with Thalia. But as he felt the steady, rhythmic rise and fall of Annabeth’s chest against his, he decided it was a small price to pay.

He had the girl, he had the sky, and for the first time in his life, he didn't feel like he was drifting. He was exactly where he was supposed to be.
