Love
The Victory Lap
The drive home was quiet, but it wasn't the heavy, suffocating silence of the previous night. This was a charged stillness, thick with the scent of Michael’s post-training sweat and the lingering electricity of their standoff at the pitch. Mimi sat in the passenger seat, her small legs crossed, looking out the window with a tiny, satisfied smirk playing on her lips. She knew she had won, but more importantly, she knew she had Michael’s undivided attention again.
Every time they hit a red light, Michael’s hand would find its way to her thigh, his fingers squeezing the soft skin revealed by her short shorts. He didn't say much, his eyes focused on the road, but the muscle in his jaw was working overtime. He was agitated, wired, and clearly overstimulated by the sight of her flaunting herself in front of his colleagues.
When they finally pulled into the driveway of their home, Michael didn't even wait for the engine to fully cool before he was out of the car. He rounded the hood and opened Mimi’s door, offering a hand to pull her out. His grip was firm, possessive.
"Inside," he muttered, his voice dropping an octave.
Mimi followed him, her heart fluttering against her ribs. She loved this version of him—the one who dropped the 'chill' act and let his true, intense nature take over. As soon as the front door clicked shut, Michael turned, pinning her against the wood. He didn't kiss her immediately; he just looked at her, his eyes roaming over her doll-like face and the way the baby tee stretched over her chest.
"You really thought you were clever today, didn't you?" he asked, his hands sliding down to her hips, pulling her flush against his training gear.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Mimi teased, her voice a soft, melodic lilt. She reached up, tracing the line of his collarbone. "I just wanted to support my boyfriend. Is it my fault the 'support' was so distracting?"
Michael let out a dry, breathless laugh. "Distracting? Mimi, I saw half the defensive line stop mid-sprint. You had the academy kids tripping over their own feet. You knew exactly what those shorts were doing."
"Maybe I just wanted to remind you of what you have," she whispered, her eyes locking onto his. "Since you seemed so confused about it last night. I don't like being an option, Michael. And I definitely don't like your ex-girlfriend thinking she has an 'in' because you’re too polite to shut the door."
Michael’s expression softened, the frustration melting into something more sincere. He leaned down, forehead resting against hers. "I told you, she’s blocked. Deleted. It’s done. I was an idiot for not doing it sooner, but don't you ever doubt who I want. You’re the only one I come home to."
He finally captured her lips in a kiss that tasted of apology and hunger. It was deep and demanding, a silent promise that the argument was truly over and the reconciliation had begun. Mimi melted into him, her small hands clutching at his shoulders, feeling the power in his frame.
"Go upstairs," Michael whispered against her mouth, his breath hot. "Get in bed. I’m going to jump in the shower for two minutes to get the pitch off me, and then I’m going to show you exactly how much I missed you."
Mimi didn't need to be told twice. She scurried up the stairs, kicking off her sneakers and shedding the denim shorts that had caused such a stir. She crawled under the cool silk sheets of their king-sized bed, leaving only her tiny white tee on. She felt small and delicate in the vastness of the bed, her pink cheeks still glowing from the day’s excitement.
A few minutes later, the sound of the shower cut off. The bedroom door creaked open, and Michael stepped out, a towel wrapped low around his waist. Droplets of water still clung to the dark skin of his chest and shoulders. He looked formidable, his athletic build highlighted by the dim afternoon light filtering through the curtains.
He didn't get into bed with her. Instead, he walked toward the headboard, his eyes fixed on her. Mimi watched him, her breath hitching. He seemed taller, more imposing than usual.
"Stay right there," he commanded softly.
Mimi lay back against the pillows, her hair splayed out like a dark halo. Michael dropped the towel and stepped onto the mattress, but he didn't lie down. He moved to the very top of the bed, positioning himself behind her head. He was standing on the mattress, looming over her, his presence dominating her entire field of vision.
He reached down, his large hands framing her face, his thumbs stroking her flushed cheeks. "You like to play games, Mimi? You like to tease?"
"I was just being 'chill,' Michael," she whispered, throwing his own words back at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Yeah? Well, I’m done being chill," he replied.
He guided her head back, tilting her chin up until she was looking directly up at him from a reversed perspective. From this angle, he looked like a giant. He shifted, his thick, heavy length hovering just above her lips. Mimi’s eyes widened, her pulse racing. The power dynamic had shifted completely, and she was exactly where she wanted to be.
"Open for me," he murmured.
Mimi obeyed, her lips parting as she took him in. Michael was slow at first, mindful of her size, but as the friction began to build, his movements became more rhythmic and determined. He gripped the headboard for leverage, his knuckles white, as he began to slide deep into her throat.
The sensation was overwhelming. Mimi’s hands reached up, grasping his muscular thighs, her fingers digging into his skin as she tried to keep up with the pace he was setting. He was relentless, his breath coming in ragged gasps that echoed in the quiet room. He wasn't the "polite" footballer the world saw on TV; right now, he was just a man reclaiming what was his.
"That's it," he groaned, his voice vibrating through her. "Look at me, Mimi."
She strained to look up, her eyes watering slightly, meeting his dark, intense gaze. He looked possessed, his focus entirely on her. The sight of her—small, doll-like, and completely devoted to him—was clearly pushing him over the edge. He began to move faster, his hips thrusting with a raw, primal energy.
Mimi felt the tension in his body reach a breaking point. His thighs flexed under her hands, and his grip on the headboard tightened until the wood groaned.
"Mimi... I'm..." he choked out, his voice breaking.
With a final, deep thrust, Michael let out a low growl, his entire body shuddering as he released a heavy, hot load into her mouth. Mimi swallowed instinctively, her eyes fluttering shut as the warmth filled her. He stayed there for a long moment, his forehead resting against the wall above the headboard, his chest heaving as he caught his breath.
Slowly, Michael moved, stepping down from the head of the bed and crawling onto the mattress properly. He pulled Mimi into his arms, tucking her small body against his side. He was still breathing hard, his skin damp and warm.
Mimi curled into him, her head resting on his chest, listening to the frantic thudding of his heart. She felt a sense of profound peace. The ex-girlfriend, the internet comments, the petty arguments—it all felt miles away now.
Michael reached down, tilting her face up so he could look at her. He wiped a stray tear from the corner of her eye with his thumb, his expression incredibly tender.
"I'm sorry about last night," he said quietly. "And I'm sorry I let it get to the point where you felt like you had to come to the training ground and cause a riot just to get through to me."
Mimi smiled, her pink cheeks dimpling. "It was actually kind of fun. Your teammates are very polite, Michael. Much more polite than you just were."
Michael chuckled, pulling her closer and kissing the top of her head. "Don't get any ideas. I'm telling the gaffer to ban you from the sidelines if you ever wear those shorts again."
"You wouldn't dare," she giggled.
"Try me," he teased, though they both knew he loved the attention she drew as much as he hated it. It was a testament to what he had—a woman who was beautiful, sharp, and fiercely loyal.
They lay there in the quiet of their bedroom, the afternoon sun fading into a soft orange glow. The "ghost of games past" had finally been laid to rest, replaced by the solid, undeniable reality of the two of them. Michael reached for his phone on the nightstand one last time, not to check messages, but to turn it off completely.
"No distractions," he whispered, tossing the device aside. "Just us."
Mimi hummed in agreement, closing her eyes and breathing in the scent of the man who had finally learned that some doors were meant to be slammed shut and locked tight. She was his, he was hers, and as far as she was concerned, the victory lap was only just beginning.
