Seungmin’s littlespace disaster

The Anchor in the Deep

The transition was always the hardest part. On stage, Seungmin was a master of his craft, his voice soaring with a technical precision that masked the hollow ache behind his ribs. He hit every note, followed every choreography cue, and maintained a professional distance that the fans interpreted as cool charisma. But the moment the final curtain dropped and the roar of the crowd faded into the muffled hum of the backstage corridors, the mask didn't just slip—it disintegrated.

As soon as they reached the privacy of the van, Seungmin’s posture collapsed. The sharp, focused gaze of an idol vanished, replaced by a glazed, wandering look. His fingers began to twitch, plucking at the hem of his stage outfit.

Minho didn't even need to look at him to know. He could feel the shift in the air, the way the tension bled out of Seungmin’s body only to be replaced by a desperate, infantile need. Minho reached across the seat, sliding his hand into Seungmin’s.

Seungmin flinched. It was a small, almost imperceptible jerk, but it stung Minho every time. Even after six months of safety, the ghost of a leather belt and a raised voice still haunted the boy’s reflexes.

"It's just me, Minnie," Minho whispered, his voice a low rumble designed to anchor the younger boy. "Just Hyung. We’re going home."

Seungmin’s lip trembled. He leaned his head against the window, his eyes wide and unfocused. He was sliding down, down into that deep, dark well of regression that had become his only sanctuary. Since that first breakdown, the "Big Seungmin" only appeared out of necessity, a ghost that haunted the stage before retreating to let the "Little" take over. And lately, he wasn't just small; he was tiny.

"Minnie... Minnie go home?" the younger boy whispered, his voice barely a breath. His grammar was fraying, a sure sign he was slipping past his usual toddler age into something much younger.

"Yes, baby. Home to your blankets and your bottles," Minho promised.

By the time they reached the dorm, Seungmin was essentially non-verbal. He clung to Minho’s sleeve, but there was a heartbreaking hesitation in his touch. He wanted to latch on, to bury himself in Minho’s side and never let go, but every time he moved too close, he would pull back, his eyes darting around as if searching for a monster in the shadows.

The trauma with Chan had created a cruel paradox: Seungmin’s soul craved the comfort of a caregiver, but his brain warned him that being too needy, too "annoying," or too close would lead to pain. He was a starving child afraid to touch the bread.

Inside the dorm, the other members moved quietly. They had learned to give the pair space. Hyunjin offered a small, sad smile as he passed them in the hallway, heading to his own room to give them privacy.

Minho led Seungmin into their shared room—a space they had converted into a safe haven. He sat on the edge of the bed and began the delicate process of peeling off Seungmin’s restrictive stage clothes. Seungmin stood like a statue, his arms hanging limp at his sides, his thumb already hovering near his mouth.

"No thumb, baby. You’ll hurt your teeth," Minho murmured, reaching into the bedside drawer for a pacifier.

As Minho leaned forward to tuck the silicone nipple into Seungmin’s mouth, the younger boy suddenly scrambled backward, tripping over his own discarded trousers. He hit the floor with a soft thud, his eyes filled with a sudden, sharp terror.

"Sowwy! Minnie sowwy!" he gasped, the pacifier falling to the carpet. He curled into a ball, shielding his head with his arms. "Don't be mad. Minnie be good. Don't... don't send back."

Minho felt a familiar surge of protective rage toward the man who had done this, but he pushed it down. He couldn't let Seungmin see anger, even if it wasn't directed at him. He dropped to his knees, keeping a respectful distance.

"I’m not mad, Seungminnie. You just tripped. It’s okay. I’m not going to send you anywhere. You’re mine, remember? You stay with Minho-hyung forever."

Seungmin peeked out from behind his elbows. "Forever?"

"Forever and a day," Minho swore. He held out his arms, an open invitation. "Do you want to come here? I have the softest sweater on."

It took a full minute for Seungmin to crawl forward. He moved an inch at a time, testing the air, watching Minho’s face for any sign of a brewing storm. When he finally reached Minho, he didn't just sit; he collapsed against his chest, a sob breaking out from behind his lips.

"Dada," he whimpered.

The word always made Minho’s heart skip. It was the ultimate mark of trust, and the ultimate responsibility. He scooped the boy up, marveling at how light he felt, as if the trauma had physically hollowed him out.

"I've got you, baby. Let's get you into your jammies."

Once Seungmin was dressed in a pair of oversized, fuzzy blue pajamas, the exhaustion of the day truly hit. Performing for thousands while mentally fighting the urge to crawl into a ball was a Herculean task, and Seungmin was spent. But as Minho tried to lay him down on the bed, Seungmin’s hands flew out, gripping Minho’s shirt with white-knuckled intensity.

"No go! No leave Minnie!"

"I'm not leaving, sweetheart. I'm just getting your blanket," Minho soothed.

Seungmin shook his head violently, tears spilling over his cheeks. He was deep now—barely a year old in his mind. He couldn't articulate the fear that if he let go, the world would shift and he’d wake up back in that cold room with the sound of a snapping belt.

His breathing became hitched and jagged. He started to pull at his own hair, a self-destructive habit that flared up whenever he felt the "bad thoughts" coming.

"Hey, hey, none of that," Minho said firmly but gently, catching Seungmin’s hands. "Look at me. Look at Dada."

Seungmin’s eyes were wild, searching. He needed a level of closeness that words couldn't provide. He needed to be anchored to the present, to the physical reality of Minho’s presence.

Minho sighed softly, his heart aching. He knew what worked. He knew the only thing that could truly settle the storm when Seungmin regressed this deeply. He climbed onto the bed, propping himself up against the headboard, and pulled Seungmin into his lap.

"Come here, little bird."

He guided Seungmin’s head to his chest. Seungmin was rooting instinctively, his small face pressing against the fabric of Minho’s shirt. This was the only way he could sleep now. It wasn't about milk—it was about the primal, skin-to-skin connection of nursing, a way to ensure that his caregiver was right there, that he wasn't alone in the dark.

Minho shifted his clothing, allowing the younger boy to latch.

The change in Seungmin was instantaneous. The frantic tension left his limbs. His small, shaky breaths smoothed out into a rhythmic hum. He kneaded his fingers against Minho’s side, a slow, kitten-like motion that spoke of a peace he could never find when he was "Big."

In this state, the world was simple. There were no songs to memorize, no cameras to smile for, and no angry leaders to fear. There was only the warmth of Minho, the steady beat of a heart beneath his ear, and the comforting, rhythmic pull that grounded him to the earth.

Minho rested his chin on the top of Seungmin’s head, his hand tracing soothing circles on the boy’s back.

"You're safe," Minho whispered into the quiet room. "I'll never let the bad man back in. You can stay small as long as you need."

Seungmin made a tiny, muffled sound of contentment, his eyes fluttering shut. He was drifting. For the first time all day, his mind was quiet. The darkness wasn't a place of fear anymore; it was just the soft curtain of sleep, guarded by the only person who had ever truly looked at his broken pieces and called them beautiful.

As the minutes ticked by, Seungmin’s grip on Minho’s shirt loosened, his body becoming heavy with deep, restorative sleep. Minho didn't move. He wouldn't move for hours. He would stay right here, acting as the shield between Seungmin and the rest of the world.

The road to recovery was still long. There would be days when Seungmin couldn't even look Minho in the eye, days when the "Big" Seungmin would cry over the time he was losing to his "Little" self. But tonight, there was only this. A quiet room, a steady heartbeat, and a little boy who had finally found his way home.

Minho closed his eyes, his own exhaustion tugging at him. He held Seungmin a little tighter, a silent promise echoing in the space between them.

"I've got you, Minnie. Always."
