Unexpected

Late to the Truth

For five years, the glass corridors of Siraphop Holdings had operated on a quiet, rhythmic synchronization that everyone saw but no one dared question aloud. Net Siraphop Manithikhun was the company’s unshakeable center—an Alpha whose authority was measured in quiet glances, sharp boardroom negotiations, and an ironclad composure that never cracked. And right at his side, matching him stride for stride with an iPad in hand and an encyclopedic knowledge of Net’s every preference, was JJ Radchapon.

People whispered. In the executive lounges and the break rooms, the rumors had lingered for half a decade: *They breathe the same air. They don’t even need words. Have you ever seen Net let another Omega stand that close?*

Net and JJ had both smiled politely through the gossip, deflecting it with effortless professionalism. They buried the heat of lingering eye contact under quarterly earnings and scheduling conflicts. Neither had dared to disrupt the fragile, perfect machinery of their working relationship.

Until Tokyo.

The international merger dinner had seemed routine until JJ inadvertently drank from a champagne flute that had never been intended for him. The drug slipped into the glass was meant to chemically force a sudden, violently synthetic heat. It hadn't hit him during the formal dinner, but the moment the heavy oak door of their shared hotel suite clicked shut, JJ had collapsed against the foyer wall, his skin burning like an open flame.

Net had dropped his briefcase, rushing to support him, his large hands gripping JJ’s trembling shoulders. "JJ? Look at me. What’s wrong?"

"Hot... Net, it hurts, please—something’s wrong with me," JJ had sobbed, his usual pristine composure shattering. His scent—usually a mild, comforting fragrance of sweet white tea—burst into an intoxicating, cloying distress bloom that flooded the enclosed suite.

The biological trigger was instantaneous and merciless. Net’s own heavily regulated rut, dormant under strict suppressants for months, roared to life at the scent of his long-cherished Omega in desperate distress.

"Blockers," Net had gritted out through clenched teeth, his pupils blown wide as his Alpha instincts surged, every muscle in his back locking. "In my bag. I’ll get—"

"Don't leave me," JJ had begged, fingers knotting desperately into Net’s silk tie, pulling the Alpha down. "Please, Net. Net, please... I need you."

What followed had consumed seven full days in that locked suite. Net had prolonged their stay overseas under the guise of finalized negotiations, sheltering them from the world while their bodies drowned in primal necessity.

Net’s memory of those days was burned into his marrow. He remembered stripping JJ out of his tailored suit, their clothes torn and discarded on the plush carpet. JJ had been slick, weeping from the sheer sensory overload as Net spread his slender thighs over the edge of the mattress.

"Net... please, look at what you do to me," JJ had whined, his back arching, slick dripping down his thighs as Net coated two fingers and slid them inside his tight, pulsing entrance.

"I have you, JJ," Net had growled, his voice thick with raw rut-heat, leaning over him until his chest pressed to JJ's fevered skin. "Look at me. Only me."

Net had lined himself up, nudging his thick, weeping tip against JJ’s drenched rim before thrusting entirely into the tight, velvet heat of his Omega. JJ had screamed an ecstatic, broken sob into the crook of Net’s neck, his legs locking tightly around Net’s waist. Net moved inside him with brutal, rhythmic precision, his hips snapping forward, driving so deeply that JJ could do nothing but tremble and plead. Each slap of their skin echoed off the glass windows overlooking the Tokyo skyline. When Net felt his base begin to swell, JJ had clawed at his shoulders, his own climax tearing through him in shivering spasms.

"Net, the knot—it’s too big, it’s—"

"Take it, sweetheart. Take all of it," Net had rasped, his Alpha claiming every inch as he thrust home to the hilt, his thick knot popping past JJ’s ring of muscle. JJ had cried out, tears spilling down his flushed cheeks as Net locked them together, pulsing endlessly, pumping thick, heavy ropes of Alpha seed deep into the Omega's desperate womb until JJ was thoroughly, irreversibly filled.

After the storm passed, reality had returned with a cold bite. JJ had been terrified—convinced they had ruined five years of work, terrified the board would think he used his secondary gender to climb the corporate ladder. Net had offered to step into a relationship immediately, but JJ had pleaded to forget it, to pretend it had been nothing more than an emergency medical reaction. Net, unwilling to push his fragile Omega, had agreed to take it slow.

Back in Bangkok, Net had lasted exactly three days before cornering JJ in the CEO office after hours, forcing the conversation they had run from. He had laid his heart bare: he loved JJ, had loved him for years, and refused to let Tokyo be an accident swept under the rug. Overwhelmed, JJ had confessed his own long-harbored feelings, and they reached an agreement: they would date quietly, in private, until JJ felt secure enough in his standing to tell their world.

They had planned for months of quiet dating.

Fate, however, gave them less than two weeks.

The executive floor was a blur of hurried footsteps. JJ stood near the primary printer outside the boardroom, clutching a stack of confidential audit files to his chest.

He felt atrocious. A deep, persistent nausea had been gnawing at the base of his throat since six in the morning, accompanied by a dizzying exhaustion that three cups of chamomile tea couldn't dispel.

"JJ?"

JJ blinked, trying to steady the swimming horizon as Ohm stepped in front of him, flanked by Kim and Namping. All three of them—JJ’s closest friends in the corporate hierarchy—were staring at him with open worry.

"You look like a ghost," Ohm said bluntly, reaching out to touch JJ’s wrist. "And your scent is completely off. Have you checked your suppressants lately?"

"I’m fine, Ohm," JJ murmured, forcing a wan smile. "Just haven't slept well since the Tokyo trip. The handover for the quarter is heavy."

"It’s not just lack of sleep," Namping insisted softly, tilting his head. "JJ, you’re trembling. Let me take those binders into the boardroom for you."

"No, Mr. Siraphop needs them categorized before the eleven o’clock," JJ insisted, his throat tightening. He took a single step forward, but his vision suddenly narrowed into a dark tunnel. His knees turned to water.

"JJ!"

Around the corner, Net’s close friends and directors, Keng and Latte, were exiting the elevator alongside Net’s parents, who had arrived unannounced for an executive review.

They all turned just in time to see JJ crumple.

The heavy binders crashed across the marble floor, papers scattering like autumn leaves. Ohm barely caught JJ’s shoulders before his head struck the ground. JJ was limp, his lips pale, completely unresponsive.

"Call the medical clinic now!" Net’s mother, Lady Darin, commanded, her sharp voice slicing through the sudden panic. She rushed forward, kneeling by JJ’s side and brushing the damp hair from his forehead. "Someone get a stretcher! Move!"

Net stepped out of the executive car at the ground level, buttoning his charcoal suit jacket after finishing a meeting across town. The moment his phone connected to the company network, it buzzed frantically with missed calls from Keng, Latte, and his mother.

His chest seized with an instinctive, suffocating dread.

He didn't take the executive elevator; he bolted straight for the private clinic wing on the third floor. When the double doors hissed open, the air in the waiting lounge was thick with quiet, nervous tension.

Ohm, Kim, and Namping were huddled together on a couch, pale-faced. Keng and Latte were speaking in hushed murmurs near the reception desk. And standing by the physician’s office were Net’s parents—his father stone-faced, his mother pacing with an eagle’s intensity.

"What happened?" Net’s voice cut through the room, low and laced with an involuntary command pheromone that made the Betas in the room flinch. His eyes scanned the empty corridors. "Where is he? Where is JJ?"

"Net, breathe," Latte said quickly, stepping forward to catch his friend’s shoulder. "He fainted in the hallway outside the boardroom. They brought him straight here."

"Did he hit his head? Is he hurt?" Net demanded, his usual corporate calm completely disintegrating.

Before Latte could answer, the door to the primary examination room opened. Dr. Virote, the company’s head physician who had managed the family’s health for decades, stepped out, holding a digital tablet.

"Siraphop," the doctor addressed Net, noting the Alpha’s feral posture. "He’s conscious now. He suffered from severe exhaustion and a sudden drop in blood pressure."

"What caused it?" Net asked, stepping closer, his heart hammering against his ribs.

Dr. Virote adjusted his glasses, casting a brief, curious glance toward the gathered crowd before looking Net dead in the eye. "It is a standard physiological reaction under the circumstances. Mr. Radchapon is pregnant."

The lounge fell into a silence so absolute that the hum of the air conditioning sounded deafening.

Ohm gasped softly. Kim and Namping exchanged wide-eyed, stunned glances. Keng raised his eyebrows, glancing between Net and the doctor. JJ was single. For years, JJ had lived as a completely unattached, dedicated professional with no known partner.

Net’s breath caught in his throat. A strange, roaring warmth rushed through his veins, warring with the sheer gravity of the moment. He forced his mind to calculate, anchoring himself to reality.

"How far along is he?" Net asked, his voice strikingly steady despite the tremor in his hands.

"Approximately three to four weeks," Dr. Virote replied smoothly. "The hormonal spike indicates it occurred during an intense heat cycle."

Three to four weeks. Tokyo.

The room seemed to tilt. Net felt his mother’s sharp, piercing gaze instantly lock onto him. Lady Darin didn't say a word to the rest of the room. She simply stepped forward, her posture regal and uncompromising, stopping inches from her son.

"Net," she said softly, though the weight behind the name was heavy enough to break steel. "Look at me."

Net met his mother’s eyes. He didn't blink.

"Tell me," his mother commanded quietly. "Whose child is he carrying?"

The lounge held its breath. Net knew he could dodge it. He could ask the doctor for privacy. He could protect their corporate image. But looking at the closed door of the clinic room, knowing JJ was inside, small and scared and carrying his pup, Net refused to hide any longer.

"He is carrying my child," Net stated clearly, loud enough for every single person in that lounge to hear.

A sharp intake of breath rippled across the room. Ohm looked like he might faint himself. Keng simply whistled under his breath.

"Net," his father spoke up, his voice rumbling with quiet authority. "You and your assistant?"

"Our relationship shifted," Net answered calmly, meeting his parents' gaze with absolute resolve. "We intended to tell you properly, through the right channels and in our own time. Not like this. The pregnancy was not planned—there was an incident overseas that precipitated his cycle, which I will not discuss out here. But make no mistake: JJ is mine. The child is mine. And I will take full, absolute responsibility."

He didn't wait for his parents to interrogate him further. Turning on his heel, Net bypassed Dr. Virote and opened the door to the private room.

The examination room was quiet, shaded from the harsh afternoon sun by sheer blinds. JJ sat on the edge of the examination bed, wearing an oversized hospital gown, his knees drawn up toward his chest.

He was crying silently. Tears trailed down his pale cheeks, soaking into the fabric over his knees. When the door opened and Net’s rich, soothing scent of dark cedar and amber flooded the room, JJ flinched, looking up with wide, terrified eyes.

"Net..." JJ choked out, his voice cracking. "The doctor said... Net, what did I do? Everyone saw. Your parents are outside. The company... I’ve ruined everything."

Net closed the door behind him with a soft click, locking it. In three long strides, he crossed the room, stepping between JJ’s parted knees and pulling the smaller man firmly into his arms.

"Hush," Net murmured fiercely, pressing JJ’s head directly against his scent gland at the crook of his neck. "Stop talking. Breathe me in, JJ. Breathe."

JJ broke entirely, clutching the back of Net’s suit jacket, his sobs muffled against the fine wool. "I was supposed to be your assistant. We were supposed to be careful. Now they think—they’re going to think I trapped you, that I used you—"

"No one thinks that. And anyone who dares utter a word of that nonsense will find their career terminated before sundown," Net stated, his voice trembling with a ferocious protectiveness. He cupped JJ’s jaw, forcing the Omega to look up at him. "Listen to me, JJ. Look at my eyes."

JJ sniffled, his hazel eyes swimming with tears.

"This wasn't how I wanted it to happen either," Net confessed softly, his thumb sweeping away a tear. "I wanted to take you to dinner. I wanted to hold your hand in public. I wanted to take you on a proper date without you hiding your ring finger. I wanted to give you the pace you deserved. But having our child? Having you as mine? That is not a mistake. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

"Are you... you’re not angry?" JJ whispered, his lower lip quivering.

"Angry?" Net let out a breathless, disbelieving laugh, leaning down to press their foreheads together. "JJ, I am terrified of losing you, not this. You are carrying my future. There is nothing in this world I care about more."

JJ let out a shaky, shuddering breath, his hands sliding around Net’s waist, finally leaning his full weight against the Alpha. "What do we do now?"

"We stop hiding," Net whispered simply.

Net helped JJ down from the bed, wrapping his own suit jacket around JJ’s shoulders to envelop him in his protective scent. He took JJ’s cold hand, intertwining their fingers tightly. JJ looked at their linked hands, nervous, but he squeezed back.

Net unlocked the clinic door and pulled it open, stepping back out into the waiting area.

Every head snapped toward them. JJ shrank slightly, but Net’s grip remained an unbreakable anchor.

His parents stood before them. Lady Darin looked at JJ’s tear-stained face, then looked down at their joined hands, her sharp gaze softening into something deep and surprisingly warm.

"JJ, dear," she said gently, stepping past her son and placing a warm palm on JJ’s cheek. "You silly boy. Working yourself to exhaustion when you should have been resting."

JJ blinked, utterly stunned. "Madam Siraphop, I—"

"Mother," Net interrupted firmly, stepping up so his shoulder pressed securely against JJ’s. He looked at his parents, then at the stunned faces of their friends and executives.

"Mother, Father," Net said, his voice ringing with absolute pride and unwavering finality. "Let me officially introduce you to JJ. My partner. The mother of your grandchild. And your future son-in-law."

A collective murmur broke out—half in joy, half in sheer vindication. Ohm covered his mouth with a watery laugh, and Keng grinned, shaking his head.

JJ looked up at Net, the color returning to his cheeks as a soft, radiant smile broke through his exhaustion. The five years of whispering in the hallways were finally over.

The rumors had never been wrong. They had just arrived early.
