Anna is twelve years old and an orphan, but she ends up in an orphanage called the "House of the Hearth." The House of the Hearth is a special orphanage run by one of the Fatui Harbingers, The Knave. The orphans living there treat each other like family, and Arlecchino is called "Father." As they grow older, many of the children join the Fatui and serve for the good of Snezhnaya. Anna grows close to all her new siblings, but no one even suspects that she is a telepath who can read others' thoughts. No, Anna didn't become a telepath as a result of experiments; she was born that way.
