The Thirst Trap is a Battlefield

The mid-August heat had reached a level that Izuku Midoriya could only describe as "villainous." It was the kind of humidity that made the air feel like a damp wool blanket, and even within the air-conditioned confines of the Endeavor Agency’s private gym, the atmosphere was thick. They had been training for four hours straight—sparring, quirk-refinement, and endurance drills.

Izuku stood by the weight rack, his hero costume's upper half peeled down and tied around his waist to prevent heatstroke, leaving him in a sweat-drenched compression shirt that clung to his torso like a second skin. He was currently trying to rehydrate, but his eyes kept drifting toward the center of the mat.

Camie was currently engaged in "recovery yoga," a practice she claimed was essential for keeping her "curves on point and her vibes immaculate." She was currently in a deep, wide-legged forward fold. Because of the way she was positioned, the zipper of her black catsuit—which she had neglected to pull up after their last sparring match—had retreated dangerously low.

Izuku’s water bottle froze halfway to his lips. From his vantage point, he had a direct, unobstructed view of the way the suit strained against her hips, and as she shifted her weight to deepen the stretch, the sheer physicality of her "aesthetic" hit him like a Detroit Smash to the chest.

"Izu-kun," Camie’s voice drifted over, muffled by her position but still carrying that unmistakable playful lilt. "You’re doing that thing again where you stop breathing. It’s totally giving 'statue in a museum' energy. Are you admiring the view or did your brain just hit the '404 error' page?"

Izuku choked, a spray of water escaping his mouth as he frantically looked at the floor. "I—I was just calculating the... the muscle tension required for such a deep stretch! It’s a very impressive display of flexibility, Camie! Very... uh... ergonomic!"

Camie let out a low, throaty laugh that vibrated through the gym. She stood up slowly, rolling her spine one vertebra at a time with a deliberate, feline grace. As she reached the top, she didn't fix her suit. Instead, she hooked her thumbs into the collar, pulling it slightly wider as she fanned herself.

"Ergonomic? Babe, you are literally the most 'extra' nerd in existence," she said, sauntering over to him. She didn't stop until she was firmly within his personal space, the scent of her vanilla-and-smoke quirk mingling with the salt of her sweat. She looked him up and down, her gaze lingering on his damp compression shirt. "But honestly, look at you serving 'shredded' vibes today. Those weights are definitely doing something for your silhouette. It’s high-key thirsty in here, and I don’t think it’s just the weather."

"C-Camie, you should probably... the zipper," Izuku stammered, his eyes darting everywhere but her chest. "It’s a safety hazard. It could get caught on something during the next drill. Or... or you might catch a cold from the AC!"

Camie leaned in closer, her plump, glossy lips curving into a predatory smirk. She reached out and poked a finger right in the center of his chest, tracing the line of his sternum. "A cold? In this heat? Nice try, Izu-kun. You’re just pressed because you can’t stop staring at my rack. It’s okay, you can admit it. I’m a total ten, and you’re a red-blooded hero-in-training. It’s basically physics."

She leaned in even further, her voice dropping to a whisper that sent a shiver straight down Izuku’s spine. "Does it make your heart go *boom-boom* when I do this? Or are you more of a 'legs' guy? Because I noticed you peeping my cakes during the leg-press earlier. You were looking at my fat ass like it was a limited-edition All Might figurine."

Izuku felt like he was going to spontaneously combust. "I wasn't—I mean, I was observing your form! Your gluteal activation was—"

"Gluteal activation! Stop! I’m literally ded!" Camie shrieked with laughter, slapping his shoulder. "You are so unfiltered when you’re panicked. It’s a total mood. But for real, Izu-kun, if you’re gonna stare, at least own it. It’s way more 'alpha' than pretending to study my muscles like a biology textbook."

She winked, a slow, deliberate flutter of her lashes, before turning around to grab her own water bottle. As she walked away, she gave her hips an extra little sway, knowing full well that Izuku’s eyes were glued to her.

"Total snack," she hummed to herself, loud enough for him to hear.

The rest of the afternoon didn't get any easier. They moved to a tactical simulation in the agency’s "Urban Zone," a miniature city block designed for quirk testing. The mission was a simple "Search and Rescue," but the heat and the tension between them made it feel far more complicated.

"Okay, the 'civilian' is in that building," Izuku said, pointing to a three-story concrete structure. "I’ll go in through the roof. You provide cover with Glamour. If you can create a mist thick enough to obscure the thermal sensors, I can move without being detected."

"Bet," Camie said, giving him a thumbs-up. "I’ll make it look like the whole street is a giant disco. Total sensory overload."

As they moved toward the building, Camie’s phone chimed loudly. She stopped, her expression instantly flattening. She pulled the device from her belt and stared at the screen. Her thumb hovered over the "decline" button, her knuckles white.

"Everything okay?" Izuku asked, his hero instincts overriding his embarrassment.

"It’s just my mom again," Camie said, her voice lacking its usual sparkle. "She’s calling from the lawyer’s office. Probably wants me to pick a side in the divorce settlement. Again. Like, I’m seventeen. I just want to post fit-pics and save people, not decide who gets the summer house in Chiba."

She shoved the phone back into her suit and exhaled a sharp, jagged breath. "Whatever. Let’s just do the mission. I need to blow off some steam before I literally explode."

The "mist" she produced for the mission wasn't her usual shimmering, beautiful aurora. It was dark, heavy, and smelled faintly of scorched sugar. She moved through the simulation with a ferocity Izuku hadn't seen before, her illusions not just distracting the training bots but actively terrifying them. She created images of gaping maws and jagged shadows, her movements sharp and aggressive.

When the simulation ended, she didn't wait for the debrief. She walked straight to the edge of the training zone and sat down on a concrete barrier, burying her face in her hands.

Izuku approached her slowly. He didn't say anything at first, just sat down beside her. The silence of the gym felt heavy.

"I’m being a total 'no-vibes' brat, aren't I?" Camie asked, her voice muffled by her palms.

"No," Izuku said firmly. "You’re being human, Camie. You don't have to be 'on' for me. I told you that."

She dropped her hands, looking at him with eyes that were red-rimmed. "It’s just... it’s always something, Izu-kun. If it’s not the divorce, it’s my dad’s new girlfriend who’s literally younger than me. Or it’s my mom crying because she can’t afford the lifestyle she’s used to. I feel like I’m the only thing holding the whole 'Utsushimi brand' together, and I’m just... I’m tired."

Izuku reached out, hesitating for a fraction of a second before he pulled her into a hug. It wasn't one of her casual, high-energy embraces. It was a solid, grounding hold. She stiffened for a moment, then melted against him, her forehead resting against his shoulder.

"You don't have to hold it together," Izuku whispered. "That’s what besties are for. You can let it fall apart for a bit. I’ll help you pick up the pieces."

Camie let out a shaky breath, her arms winding around his waist. "You’re so good at this. The whole 'heart-to-heart' thing. It’s like your secondary quirk."

"I just care about you," he said simply.

They sat like that for a long time, the hum of the AC the only sound in the room. Eventually, Camie pulled back, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. She took a deep breath, and Izuku could see the "Camie" mask sliding back into place—but this time, it felt a little more transparent, a little more honest.

"Okay," she said, giving him a small, watery smile. "Vibe check: recovered. I think I need approximately ten thousand calories of ramen and a very long nap. And maybe a selfie of us to prove I survived the day."

"I can definitely do the ramen," Izuku laughed.

An hour later, they were tucked into a corner booth at a small, hole-in-the-wall ramen shop near the agency. The steam from the bowls fogged up Izuku’s glasses, and Camie was busy taking a video of her noodles for her story.

"Look at this broth, guys! It’s literally liquid gold. Total main-character energy," she chirped into her phone before turning the camera on Izuku. "And here’s my favorite hero-in-training, looking like a total snack and a half. Say hi to the fans, Izu-kun!"

Izuku waved awkwardly, his face flushing. "Hi, everyone."

"He’s so shy, it’s a crime," Camie giggled, ending the recording. She set her phone down and looked at him, her expression softening. "Seriously though, thanks for earlier. You really are a real one."

"Anytime, Camie."

As they ate, the conversation turned back to their usual banter. Camie started showing him more memes, and Izuku tried to explain the plot of a new hero documentary he’d watched. But as the meal wound down, Camie’s mischievous streak returned with a vengeance.

She leaned across the table, propping her chin on her hand. Her zipper was still noticeably low, and she seemed to be enjoying the way Izuku was struggling to maintain eye contact.

"So, Izu-kun," she said, her voice dropping to that playful, teasing purr. "Since we’re being all 'honest' and 'deep' today... tell me the truth. On a scale of one to 'literally dying,' how hard was it for you not to stare at my cleavage when I was doing those stretches earlier?"

Izuku nearly choked on a piece of pork. "I—Camie! We were having a moment! A real, emotional moment!"

"And now we’re having a 'thirsty' moment," she countered, her eyes dancing. "Come on. Spill the tea. I saw your face. You were totally spiraling. You looked like you’d just seen a ghost, or like... a really, really good-looking girl in a very tight suit."

Izuku sighed, realizing there was no escape. He set his chopsticks down and looked her in the eye, his own expression becoming surprisingly serious. "It was... very difficult, Camie. You’re—you’re a very beautiful girl. And your costume is... well, it’s very effective at showing that. I’m a hero, but I’m still a guy. It’s hard not to notice when my best friend looks like... well, like you."

Camie blinked, her teasing smirk faltering for a second. She hadn't expected him to be that blunt. A faint, genuine blush crept up her own cheeks, a rare sight for the girl who was usually the one doing the flustering.

"Wow," she whispered. "That was actually... super sweet. And low-key hot. Ten points to Midoriya."

She reached across the table and squeezed his hand, her thumb rubbing over his knuckles. "I like it when you’re honest, Izu-kun. Even when you’re being a thirsty nerd. It makes me feel... I don't know. Desired? But in a way that doesn't feel gross."

She pulled her hand back and winked, the "Camie" persona returning in full force. "But don't get too comfortable, babe. I’m still gonna tease the life out of you. It’s my favorite hobby. Next time, I might even 'accidentally' forget to wear the compression shirt under the suit. Imagine the structural integrity then!"

"Camie, no!" Izuku groaned, burying his face in his hands.

"Camie, *yes*!" she laughed, standing up and grabbing her bag. "Come on, Hero-kun. Let’s get back before Endeavor realizes we’re gone and starts setting things on fire. I need to send you those voice memos of me singing karaoke. I did a cover of that new pop song and I literally hit the high note. It’s a total slay."

As they walked out of the shop and back into the humid Tokyo night, Izuku felt a familiar buzzing in his pocket.

*Camie [9:42 PM]: [Image Attached]*

He opened it. It was a selfie she’d taken just now, walking ahead of him. She was looking back over her shoulder, her tongue poking out playfully, her eyes bright and full of life. The caption read: *Bestie vibes are the best vibes. Thanks for being my rock, Izu-kun. Love ya! 💖✨*

Izuku smiled, his heart feeling full and light. He looked at her back—at the girl who spoke in hashtags and hid her pain behind glitter and slang—and he knew that no matter how many times she teased him or made him blush, he would always be there to catch her.

*Izuku [9:45 PM]: Love you too, Camie. No cap.*

He heard her let out a delighted shriek from a few paces ahead. "HE SAID 'NO CAP'! OH MY GOD, THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS REAL!"

She turned around and ran back to him, leaping into his arms for a hug that nearly knocked him over. She was warm, she was laughing, and she was entirely, unapologetically herself.

"You’re the best, Izu-kun," she whispered against his ear. "Literally the goat."

And as they walked back toward the agency, hand in hand, Izuku realized that while he might never fully understand her language, he understood her heart perfectly. And that was, as she would say, absolutely Gucci.
