The Gravity of a Gaze
The following morning at Valdebebas, the air felt different. To the rest of the world, it was just another humid morning in Madrid, the sun beginning its slow ascent over the training ground. But for Sergio Ramos, the world had shifted on its axis, tilting dangerously toward a precipice he hadn't known existed until the night before.
He stood by his locker, the familiar scent of deep-heat rub and expensive leather filling his nostrils, but his senses were tuned to a frequency that only broadcasted one thing: Luka.
When the door to the dressing room creaked open and Luka Modrić stepped inside, Sergio felt a jolt of electricity shoot down his spine. He didn't turn immediately. He kept his back to the door, staring intently at his own reflection in the polished metal of the locker. He watched through the periphery as Luka moved with his usual quiet grace, his head slightly bowed, his shoulders hunched as if trying to occupy as little space as possible.
*He looks so innocent,* Sergio thought, his grip tightening on the edge of his bench. *So fragile.*
But Sergio knew better now. He knew what lay beneath that veneer of Croatian stoicism. He knew the sounds Luka made when he was alone. He knew the way Luka’s body arched when he was thinking of Sergio’s hands. The memory of it—the raw, unfiltered desperation in Luka’s voice—hit Sergio like a physical blow to the gut.
"Morning, Sese," Luka murmured, his voice soft and slightly raspy, as he sat down at the locker next to Sergio’s.
Sergio finally turned. He forced his face into the mask of the captain, the boisterous, confident leader. "Morning, Luki. You look like you didn't sleep a wink. I told you to rest."
Luka flinched, a microscopic movement that Sergio wouldn't have noticed forty-eight hours ago. Now, it was glaring. Luka’s eyes flickered up to Sergio’s, then darted away, his long lashes casting shadows over his pale cheeks.
"I... I had some trouble falling asleep," Luka admitted, his fingers trembling slightly as he began to unlace his trainers. "Too much on my mind, I suppose."
Sergio felt a dark, possessive heat bloom in his chest. *I know exactly what was on your mind.*
"Well, we can't have that," Sergio said, his voice dropping an octave, becoming a low rumble that seemed to vibrate in the small space between them. He reached out, his hand hovering for a second before he let it rest heavily on the nape of Luka’s neck.
It was a gesture he had performed hundreds of times—a brotherly squeeze, a sign of affection. But today, Sergio felt the heat of Luka’s skin beneath his palm like a brand. He felt the way Luka’s pulse jumped under his thumb, a frantic, trapped-bird rhythm. Sergio didn't pull away. Instead, he let his thumb slide upward, brushing against the soft hair at the base of Luka’s skull.
Luka froze. He didn't pull away, but he stopped breathing for a heartbeat. "Sese?"
"You're tense, Wizard," Sergio whispered, leaning in just enough so that the scent of Luka—soap, sweat, and something uniquely *him*—filled his lungs. "You need to relax. We have a big game coming up."
"I'm fine," Luka gasped, though he looked anything but. His skin, usually pale, was beginning to flush a delicate pink, starting at his collarbones and creeping up his neck.
Sergio’s eyes tracked the color. He found himself wondering if that flush covered Luka’s entire body when he was being touched like this. He imagined biting into that pale skin, leaving marks that would tell the world exactly who Luka belonged to. The thought made his own trousers feel uncomfortably tight, a dull ache beginning to throb in his groin.
"Hey, lover boys! Save it for the pitch!" Marcelo’s voice boomed from across the room, followed by a chorus of laughter from the other players.
Sergio withdrew his hand, but he did it slowly, his fingers lingering until the very last second. He flashed a grin at Marcelo, his typical bravado returning. "Jealousy doesn't suit you, Marce! I just need my best player in top shape."
Luka didn't join in the laughter. He kept his head down, hurriedly finishing his change into training gear. Sergio watched him, his gaze predatory and sharp. He noticed the way the fabric of the training shirt clung to Luka’s slight frame. He noticed the delicacy of Luka’s wrists and the way his hair fell over his eyes.
Throughout the training session, Sergio was a man possessed. He followed Luka’s movements with an intensity that bordered on the obsessive. When they ran drills, Sergio made sure he was always in Luka’s orbit. When they played a small-sided game, Sergio found excuses to collide with him, to feel the impact of Luka’s smaller body against his own.
At one point, during a break for water, Sergio stood behind Luka, watching him drink. The way Luka’s throat moved as he swallowed, the way a stray drop of water rolled down his chin and disappeared into the collar of his shirt—it was torture.
"You're staring, Sergio," Zinedine Zidane remarked, walking past with a clipboard. The manager’s voice was light, but his eyes were perceptive.
Sergio didn't blink. "Just making sure he’s okay, Boss. He seems a bit distracted today."
"He’s fine. You, on the other hand, look like you’re trying to burn a hole in the back of his head," Zidane countered with a dry smile before moving on.
Sergio ignored him. He couldn't stop. It was as if a veil had been lifted, and he was seeing Luka for the first time—not as his teammate, not as his friend, but as a prize. A secret, shimmering thing that wanted to be broken.
The session ended, and the players filtered back toward the building. Sergio hung back, waiting for Luka to finish a few extra free-kick repetitions. When Luka finally gathered the balls and headed for the tunnel, Sergio was there, leaning against the concrete wall in the shadows.
"Luki," he called out.
Luka jumped, nearly dropping the bag of balls. "Sergio! I thought you’d gone in."
"I wanted to talk to you about the iPad," Sergio said, stepping forward into Luka’s personal space. He watched Luka’s eyes go wide, the pupils blowing out until the brown iris was almost gone.
"The... the iPad?" Luka stammered.
"Yeah. I dropped it off yesterday. At your house," Sergio said, his voice smooth and dangerous. He watched the realization dawn on Luka’s face. He watched the color drain from Luka’s cheeks, leaving him ghostly pale. "You were busy, so I just left it on the table."
Luka’s breath came in short, shallow hitches. "You... you were at the house?"
"I was," Sergio confirmed. He took another step, pinning Luka between his large frame and the cold concrete wall. He could smell the fear on him, but more than that, he could see the spark of that same desperation he had witnessed through the crack of the door. "I heard you, Luka."
The silence that followed was suffocating. Luka looked like he wanted the earth to open up and swallow him whole. He wouldn't look up, his gaze fixed firmly on the third button of Sergio’s shirt.
"I don't know what you mean," Luka whispered, his voice trembling so hard it was barely audible.
Sergio reached out, his hand cupping Luka’s jaw, forcing him to look up. He was surprised by the gentleness of his own touch, even as his mind screamed for him to be rough. "Don't lie to me. Not after what I heard. You were calling for me, weren't you?"
Luka’s eyes filled with tears, his long lashes dampening. "Sergio, please... I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m a mess, I know, I shouldn't—"
"Shh," Sergio silenced him, his thumb brushing over Luka’s bottom lip. The lip was plush and trembling, and Sergio had never wanted to bite something so badly in his entire life. "I didn't say I was angry, did I?"
Luka blinked, a single tear escaping and rolling down his cheek. "You... you aren't?"
"I was surprised," Sergio admitted, his voice dropping to a low, intimate growl. "And then I was... something else."
He leaned down, his nose brushing against Luka’s. He could feel the heat radiating off the smaller man, the sheer intensity of the longing that Luka had been suppressing for years. It was intoxicating. It made Sergio feel powerful, like a god holding a mortal’s heart in his hand.
"What were you thinking about, Luka?" Sergio asked, his breath hot against Luka’s skin. "When you were saying my name? When you were touching yourself? What did you want me to do to you?"
Luka let out a broken sob, his hands coming up to clutch at Sergio’s forearms. He looked completely undone, his dignity stripped away by Sergio’s relentless questioning. "Everything," he choked out. "I wanted everything."
Sergio felt a surge of triumph so fierce it made his head spin. He looked at Luka—this beautiful, talented, broken man—and felt a wave of possessiveness that eclipsed everything else. He didn't care about the wives, the girlfriends, the cameras, or the consequences. In this moment, in the shadows of the tunnel, there was only the two of them.
"You want to be small, don't you?" Sergio whispered, his hand sliding down from Luka’s jaw to wrap around his throat. He didn't squeeze, but the threat was there, the weight of his palm a promise of control. "You want me to take over."
Luka nodded frantically, his eyes closing as he leaned into the touch. "Yes. Please, Sergio. Yes."
Sergio’s heart was hammering against his ribs like a caged animal. He wanted to do it right here. He wanted to flip Luka around, press him face-first against the concrete, and show him exactly how small he could make him feel. He wanted to hear Luka cry out in pleasure and pain, to mark him so deeply that he would never be able to think of anyone else.
But he held himself back. The discipline of a lifetime of sport kicked in, a thin thread of restraint holding the predator at bay. Not here. Not like this.
"Not yet," Sergio said, his voice thick with unspent desire. He released Luka’s throat, his hand sliding down to rest on Luka’s chest, right over his racing heart. "We have a match to win. And then, Luki... then I’m going to give you exactly what you asked for."
Luka opened his eyes, looking dazed and breathless. "Sergio?"
"Go inside," Sergio commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Shower. Go home to your family. And wait for my call."
Luka nodded, his movements jerky and uncoordinated. He scrambled away, disappearing into the brightly lit locker room without looking back.
Sergio stayed in the shadows for a long time, his hands balled into fists. He looked down at his own body, the evidence of his arousal plain to see. He felt like he was vibrating, his skin itching with the need to touch, to take, to consume.
He thought of Pilar, waiting for him at home. He thought of the life he had built, the image he projected to the world. And then he thought of Luka—whimpering, crying, begging for him.
The choice wasn't even a choice.
He walked into the locker room, his head held high, the captain’s swagger back in his step. But as he passed Luka’s locker, he let his hand brush against the wood, a silent claim.
The rest of the day was a blur of agonizing anticipation. Sergio went through the motions of his life—lunch with the team, a brief phone call with his girlfriend, a tactical meeting—but his mind was a thousand miles away, trapped in a guest bedroom with a man who wanted to be ruined.
He found himself watching Luka across the room during the tactical meeting. Luka was trying to focus, his brow furrowed as he looked at the screen, but every time Sergio shifted in his seat or cleared his throat, Luka would flinch.
*He’s terrified,* Sergio realized with a dark thrill. *And he’s never been more turned on in his life.*
Sergio felt a strange sense of clarity. For years, he had felt this pull toward Luka, this need to protect him, to keep him close. He had told himself it was friendship, that they were just "brothers." But now he knew the truth. It was gravity. Luka was the center of his world, and Sergio was finally tired of fighting the fall.
As the sun began to set over Madrid, casting long, orange shadows over the city, Sergio sat in his car in the Valdebebas parking lot. He pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts until he found the name he was looking for.
He didn't call. He sent a single text.
*I’m coming over. Make sure you’re alone.*
He watched the little bubbles appear almost instantly, then disappear. Then appear again.
*Okay,* came the reply.
Sergio put the car in gear, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. The predator was done waiting. Tonight, the Wizard would get exactly what he deserved. And Sergio Ramos would finally find out what happened when the fire met the fuel.
