The Architecture of Devotion

The morning after was always the quietest. The sun had yet to reach the skyline, leaving the bedroom bathed in a soft, bruised purple light. Dex lay perfectly still, his body a map of Matt’s possessiveness. There were faint, blooming bruises on his hips where Matt had anchored himself, and the skin of his inner thighs felt tender, sensitized by the friction of silk and skin. He was draped across Matt’s chest, his ear pressed against the lawyer’s sternum. The heartbeat he heard was steady, a rhythmic drum that served as the only ticking clock Dex cared to follow.

Matt’s hand was buried in Dex’s hair, his fingers idly tracing the shape of Dex’s skull. It was a grounding gesture, one that reminded Dex that he was seen—not just as a weapon, but as a physical, tangible object that Matt chose to keep.

"You’re awake," Matt murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through Dex’s cheek.

"I didn't want to miss the feeling of you waking up," Dex whispered. He shifted slightly, wincing as his muscles protested.

Matt’s grip in his hair tightened just a fraction, a warning and a caress all at once. "You’re sore. I was rough with you last night. Perhaps too rough for a 'good wife' to handle."

Dex looked up, his chin resting on Matt’s chest. Even in the dim light, his eyes were bright with a feverish intensity. "No. Never too much. I want to feel what you do to me. I want the reminders to stay as long as possible. It helps... it helps the noise stay away."

Matt’s sightless eyes seemed to bore into him. He reached down with his free hand, his thumb tracing the line of Dex’s lower lip, pulling it down to reveal the slight puffiness from their kisses. "The noise. You’re so afraid of the silence of your own mind, Benjamin. You’d rather fill it with me than face the void."

"You are the only thing that fits in the void," Dex replied, his voice cracking. "Everything else just rattles around. You make it solid. You make me solid."

Matt let out a slow breath, a sound that was half-sigh, half-growl. He sat up, bringing Dex with him, maneuvering him until Dex was kneeling between his legs on the tangled sheets. The silk dress from the night before was a crumpled heap on the floor, leaving Dex bare and exposed in the cool morning air.

"If you want to be solid, you have to be disciplined," Matt said, his tone shifting. The soft, post-coital warmth was being replaced by the firm, uncompromising authority of the man who ran a law firm by day and a city by night. "I have a long day ahead of me. I have three depositions and a meeting with Foggy. I won't be back until late."

Dex’s heart skipped. The prospect of an empty apartment was always a challenge, a test of how well he could hold onto the structure Matt provided when the architect wasn't there to oversee the construction.

"I'll be ready," Dex promised, his posture straightening instinctively. "I'll have everything perfect."

"I know you will," Matt said. He reached for the nightstand, his fingers finding a small, velvet-lined box he’d placed there earlier. He opened it, revealing a collar. It wasn't the heavy, leather-and-buckle type one might expect. It was a delicate, thin band of polished silver, looking more like a piece of high-end jewelry than a restraint.

Dex’s breath hitched. He stared at the metal, his throat working as he swallowed.

"Turn around," Matt commanded.

Dex obeyed instantly, presenting the back of his neck. He felt the cold shock of the silver against his skin, followed by the soft click of the hidden clasp. The fit was snug, a constant, chilling reminder of the circle Matt had drawn around his life.

"This stays on," Matt whispered, leaning forward to kiss the nape of Dex’s neck, just above the silver band. "It’s a reminder. When you’re cleaning the kitchen, when you’re prepping my dinner, when you’re sitting alone in the dark waiting for my key in the lock... you feel that weight. You remember who put it there. You remember that you are a wife who belongs to a husband who expects total, unwavering obedience."

"Yes, Matt," Dex gasped, his eyes fluttering shut. "I'll feel it. I won't forget."

Matt pulled him back against his chest one last time, his hands sliding down to cup Dex’s pectorals, his thumbs finding the nipples that were still sensitive from the night before. He gave them a sharp, sudden pinch, eliciting a small cry from Dex.

"Good. Now, go get my coffee started. I want my breakfast served while I shower. And Dex?"

"Yes?"

"Wear the white apron. Only the apron."

The request—the demand—sent a flush of heat straight to Dex’s groin. He nodded fervently, scrambled off the bed, and hurried toward the kitchen.

The next hour was a blur of domestic ritual. Dex moved with the fluid grace of a man who had finally found his rhythm. He brewed the coffee to the exact strength Matt preferred, the aroma filling the apartment. He sizzled bacon and poached eggs with clinical precision. And, true to his word, he wore nothing but the crisp white linen apron Matt had bought for him, the ties cutting into his waist, the fabric rough against his bare skin.

When Matt emerged from the bathroom, steam clinging to his skin and a towel wrapped around his waist, he paused at the doorway of the kitchen. He listened to the sizzle of the pan, the clink of the porcelain, and the frantic, rhythmic thud of Dex’s heart.

"Breakfast is ready, Matt," Dex said, his voice steady despite the way his hands shook as he set the plate down.

Matt walked over, his hand reaching out to find the edge of the table. He sat down, but before he took a bite, he reached out and hooked a finger into the silver collar around Dex’s neck, pulling him close.

"You look exactly like you should," Matt murmured, his "gaze" sweeping over Dex’s exposed sides and the way the apron did little to hide his vulnerability. "A domestic little creature. My pretty, obedient wife, keeping the hearth warm while I go out and deal with the world."

Dex leaned into the touch, his eyes wet with tears he couldn't quite explain. "I’ll be here. I’ll be right here when you get back."

"I know," Matt said, releasing the collar and picking up his fork. "Now, sit on the floor by my feet while I eat. I want to feel you there."

Dex sank to the floor, resting his head against Matt’s knee. He felt the rough fabric of Matt’s towel, the heat of his leg, and the cold bite of the silver around his throat. It was a perfect, terrifying equilibrium.

The day passed in a haze of chores. Dex cleaned the apartment until it shone. He hand-washed Matt’s silk ties, his fingers moving over the expensive fabric with a reverence usually reserved for religious icons. He spent an hour in the bathroom, meticulously grooming himself, ensuring every inch of his skin was smooth and soft for Matt’s eventual return.

By the time the sun began to set, Dex was coiled tight with anticipation. He had set the table for two, though he knew he would likely be eating on the floor or off Matt’s lap. He had changed back into the pink silk dress, but this time, he had added the lace stockings and the garters. He felt the weight of the silver collar, a constant anchor against the rising tide of his own anxiety.

When the door finally opened, Dex was kneeling in the center of the living room, just as he had been the first night.

Matt entered, looking exhausted. His suit was rumpled, his tie loosened, and there was a faint bruise forming under his left eye—the result, no doubt, of some disagreement in a dark alley on his way home from the office. He closed the door and leaned against it, his head tilting back as he took a deep, shuddering breath.

"Dex," he sighed, the name a prayer and a command.

Dex didn't move. "I'm here, Matt. I've been waiting."

Matt dropped his briefcase and walked toward him, his movements heavy. He didn't stop until his knees were brushing against Dex’s shoulders. He reached down, his fingers finding the silver collar, his thumb tracing the engraved initials he’d had placed on the inside: *M.M.*

"It’s been a long day, Benjamin," Matt said, his voice dropping into that dark, velvety register that signaled the end of the lawyer and the beginning of the master. "The world is loud. It’s messy. It’s full of people who don't know their place."

"I know mine," Dex whispered.

Matt’s grip on the collar tightened, forcing Dex to look up. "Do you? Show me."

Dex reached up, his hands fumbling with the hem of the pink dress. He pulled it up, exposing the lace and the skin, and then he reached behind him, his fingers finding the flared base of the plug he had reinserted an hour ago. He pulled it out with a slow, deliberate motion, the sound wet and obscene in the quiet room.

"I’m ready for you," Dex panted. "I’ve been ready all day. Please, Matt. I need the noise to stop. I need you to make it stop."

Matt’s expression went cold and hungry. He reached down, grabbing Dex by the hair and pulling him to his feet. He didn't lead him to the bedroom. He pushed him back against the wall, the silver collar clinking against the plaster.

"You want the noise to stop?" Matt hissed, his body pinning Dex’s against the wall. "Then give me everything. Every thought, every breath, every drop of blood. Give it to me."

"It’s yours," Dex cried out as Matt’s hands tore at the silk dress, the fabric rending with a sharp, violent sound. "It’s all yours! I’m your wife! I’m your dog! I’m whatever you want!"

Matt entered him with a single, devastating thrust, his body slamming into Dex’s with the force of a collision. There was no preamble this time, no slow stretching. It was a reclaiming. It was an occupation.

Dex’s head hit the wall, his eyes rolling back as the sheer, unadulterated sensation of Matt filling him obliterated every other thought in his head. The internal maps, the wind speeds, the targets—it all burned away in the heat of Matt’s possession.

"Who do you belong to?" Matt demanded, his teeth sinking into the junction of Dex’s neck and shoulder.

"You! Matt Murdock! I belong to you!"

Matt’s pace was frantic, a desperate, driving rhythm that spoke of a man trying to drown out the city with the sound of his own pulse. He gripped Dex’s thighs, hoisting them up, his fingers digging into the muscle until Dex knew there would be handprints.

The silver collar felt like it was glowing, a ring of fire around Dex’s throat. He felt the lace of the garters, the silk of the ruined dress, and the hard, unyielding reality of the man inside him.

"Say it," Matt growled, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "Say what you are."

"I'm your wife," Dex sobbed, his body convulsing as he neared the edge. "I'm your pretty, broken wife. Please, Matt... please, finish me. Rule me."

Matt didn't hold back. He drove into Dex with a final, primal surge, his entire body tensing as he found his release. Dex followed a second later, a high, keening sound escaping his lips as his own climax tore through him, leaving him limp and shattered in Matt’s arms.

For a long time, the only sound was the rain beginning to tap against the windowpane. Matt kept Dex pinned against the wall, his forehead resting against Dex’s, their breaths mingling in the dark.

Slowly, Matt pulled away, but he didn't let go. He kept one hand on the silver collar, a tether that connected them even in the silence.

"You did well today, Dex," Matt whispered, his voice returning to that smooth, terrifyingly calm baritone. "The apartment looks perfect. The dinner smells wonderful."

Dex leaned his head against the wall, a small, dazed smile on his face. "Can I... can I stay in the dress? Even though it’s torn?"

Matt looked down—or rather, oriented himself toward the ruined silk. He reached out, his fingers grazing the torn fabric. "No. We’ll get you a new one. Something even thinner. Something that shows more of what I’ve done to you."

Dex nodded, his eyes closing in bliss. "Yes, Matt. Whatever you want."

Matt led him toward the bathroom, his hand never leaving the silver collar. As they walked, Dex felt the weight of the metal, the soreness of his body, and the absolute, beautiful silence in his head.

He was home. He was owned. And for Benjamin Poindexter, that was the only freedom he would ever need.
