The Echoes of Six Years

The dorm felt like a tomb, heavy with the suffocating weight of a secret that had finally imploded. While Seungmin slept a fitful, medicated sleep, the rest of Stray Kids had returned to a scene of domestic carnage. They hadn't seen the blood, but they had seen the look on Hyunjin’s face—a mask of cold, jagged fury—and the way Minho refused to let go of Seungmin’s hand even as the managers were called.

The fallout had been instantaneous. The company, faced with the undeniable evidence of the bruises and the shattered state of their lead vocalist, had moved with a swiftness born of both genuine horror and a desperate need for damage control. An immediate hiatus was announced to the public under the guise of "health concerns," but within the walls of the dorm, the truth was much uglier. Chan was gone, moved to a secure location by the company pending a full investigation, his name a forbidden bruise on everyone’s lips.

It was the morning of the second day when Seungmin finally began to stir.

Minho hadn't left his side. He was propped up against the headboard, his eyes rimmed with red, watching the younger man’s face. Beside him, Hyunjin was slumped in a chair, finally asleep after a night of pacing.

Seungmin moaned softly, his head tossing on the pillow. His mind was drifting in the hazy, lukewarm waters of deep regression. The trauma of the previous day had pushed him further back than usual; he wasn't just four now. He felt tiny, his limbs heavy and uncoordinated, his heart fluttering like a trapped bird.

"Mmm... 'nho?" Seungmin whispered, his eyes fluttering open. They were glassy, unfocused.

"I'm here, baby. I’m right here," Minho said, his voice a soothing velvet.

Seungmin reached out a trembling hand, fumbling blindly until his fingers curled around Minho’s wrist. He pulled Minho’s hand toward his face, his movements jerky and desperate. His oral fixation, always a sign of his deepest distress, was peaking. Before Minho could offer a pacifier, Seungmin had guided Minho’s index finger into his mouth, sucking on it with a rhythmic, needy intensity.

Minho didn't flinch. He let the younger man find comfort in the physical connection, his heart aching at the sheer vulnerability of the sight. Seungmin looked like a broken doll glued back together by someone who didn't quite know where the pieces went.

"That's it, Minnie. Just breathe," Minho murmured, using his free hand to stroke Seungmin’s hair.

Hyunjin stirred at the sound of the soft sucking noises, his eyes snapping open. He looked at the bed, his expression softening into a painful grimace. "Is he awake?"

"Halfway," Minho replied quietly. "He's very small, Jinnie. Be careful."

Hyunjin crawled onto the foot of the bed, moving with exaggerated slowness. "Hey, Minnie. You want some water? Or maybe some juice?"

Seungmin didn't let go of Minho’s finger. He shook his head slowly, his eyes welling up with tears that didn't spill. He looked at Minho, his gaze searching, pleading for something he didn't have the words to ask for.

"You're safe," Minho promised, sensing the unspoken fear. "He’s not here. He’s never coming back to hurt you."

At the mention of 'him,' Seungmin’s body stiffened. A small, choked sound escaped his throat, and he let go of Minho’s hand, burying his face in the crook of the elder’s neck.

"Dada... Dada was so loud," Seungmin whimpered, his voice muffled by Minho’s hoodie. The term 'Dada' usually brought comfort, but now it sounded like a curse, a title stolen and corrupted.

Minho pulled him closer, his grip tightening protectively. "I know. I'm so sorry we let him be loud, Minnie. We should have listened better."

"Minnie tried to be quiet," Seungmin sobbed, the words tumbling out in a fragile, childish lilt. "For a long, long time. Minnie hid the 'ccidents. Minnie hid the marks. If Minnie was quiet, maybe Channie wouldn't be sad."

Hyunjin let out a choked sob of his own, covering his mouth with his hand. "Six years, Seungmin? Has it really been that long?"

Seungmin pulled back just enough to look at them, his thumb immediately replacing Minho’s finger in his mouth. He nodded slowly, his eyes wide and hauntingly vacant.

"It started after the first year," Seungmin whispered, his voice trembling. "Channie said... said the world was heavy. He said I was the only one who could help him carry it. But I was heavy too. He said I was a 'bad weight.' When I went small, he said it was a waste of time."

Minho felt a cold, murderous rage simmering in his gut, but he kept his voice steady for Seungmin’s sake. "How did he help you carry it, Minnie? What did he do when he got angry?"

Seungmin shivered, his small hands clutching the front of Minho’s shirt. "Sometimes he just yelled. He told Minnie I was useless. That the fans would hate me if they saw me like this. He said I was lucky he loved me, 'cause nobody else would want a baby who makes messes."

"That’s a lie," Hyunjin hissed, his voice cracking. "That is the biggest lie I’ve ever heard."

"He told me not to tell," Seungmin continued, his voice getting smaller, more distant. "He said if I told Jinnie or 'nho, you would be stressed too. He said I would ruin the group. He said... he said the belt was to make me strong. So I wouldn't be a baby anymore."

Seungmin’s hand moved to his own shoulder, tracing the ghost of a bruise beneath the fabric of his sweater. "Sometimes he would lock Minnie in the closet. He said 'darkness makes boys grow up.' I would cry, but then he’d get the belt and I’d have to be quiet. I practiced being quiet for a long time."

The silence that followed was deafening. Minho closed his eyes, picturing the countless times over the last six years they had seen Seungmin looking tired, or the times he had skipped dinner, or the times he had worn long sleeves in the heat of summer. They had attributed it to the grueling idol life, to Seungmin’s natural perfectionism. They had trusted Chan to look after him.

"He hit you even when you weren't in littlespace?" Minho asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Seungmin nodded, a stray tear finally falling. "Big Seungminnie is stronger, so Channie hit harder. He said Big Minnie should know better. He said I was faking it to get attention. But when I’m small... it hurts so much more, 'nho. Everything is so big and scary."

He curled into a ball, his forehead resting against Minho’s chest. "I thought I was helping. I thought if I let him be mean to me, he wouldn't be mean to the others. He was so stressed, hyung. I just wanted to be a good boy."

"You were the best boy," Minho said, his voice thick with emotion. He pressed a firm, lingering kiss to the top of Seungmin’s head. "You were carrying the weight of a monster all by yourself. But you don't have to anymore. We are going to take care of you. Real care. No closets, no belts, no yelling. Just love."

"Promise?" Seungmin asked, looking up with a heartbreaking hopefulness.

"I promise on everything I am," Minho vowed.

Hyunjin moved closer, reaching out to take Seungmin’s hand. "We’re going to get you a doctor, Minnie. Someone to talk to. And we’re going to get you all the toys and pacies and soft things you want. You never have to hide being small again."

Seungmin looked between the two of them, his thumb still tucked firmly in his mouth. For the first time in six years, the oppressive shadow of Bang Chan wasn't looming in the corner of the room. The air felt lighter, even if the wounds were still raw and bleeding.

"Can I have... can I have the blue blanket?" Seungmin asked shyly, his eyes darting to the closet where his little gear had been hidden away like a shameful secret.

"You can have anything you want, baby," Hyunjin said, jumping up to retrieve it.

As Hyunjin pulled out the soft, fleece blanket and a clean pacifier, the door to the bedroom cracked open. Felix and Han stood there, their faces pale and uncertain. They had been hovering in the living room for hours, terrified of intruding but desperate to see their friend.

"Can we come in?" Felix whispered, his eyes already filling with tears at the sight of Seungmin.

Minho looked at Seungmin, seeking silent permission. The little blinked, then reached out a hand toward the door. "Lixie? Hannie?"

The two of them scrambled into the room, collapsing onto the bed in a heap of tangled limbs and soft whispers. They didn't ask questions; they just offered their warmth, surrounding Seungmin in a protective cocoon of brotherhood.

"We love you so much, Minnie," Han murmured, tucking a plush squirrel under Seungmin’s arm. "We’re so sorry we didn't know."

Seungmin sank into the pile of his friends, the blue blanket draped over his shoulders. He felt warm—not the feverish, sickly warmth of terror, but the steady, glowing heat of being truly seen.

"Minnie's tired," he mumbled, his eyes finally beginning to droop as the safety of the room took hold.

"Sleep, baby," Minho whispered, resuming the rhythmic stroking of his hair. "We’re right here. We’re not going anywhere."

As Seungmin drifted off, his thumb finally slipping from his mouth to be replaced by the soft silicone of a pacifier, the four members looked at each other over his sleeping form. There was a grim understanding in their eyes. The road to recovery would be long. There would be nightmares, there would be legal battles, and there would be the agonizing process of mourning the man they thought they knew.

But as Minho watched the peaceful rise and fall of Seungmin’s chest, he knew they would do whatever it took. The "perfect pillar" of the group was broken, but they would gather every shard, every splinter, and they would build him back up with hands that only knew how to be gentle.

The era of silence was over. The era of healing had begun.
