Toxic member

The Weight of a Finger and the Light of the Sun

A year had bled away, marked not by world tours or chart-topping hits, but by the slow, painstaking rhythm of healing. The high-octane life of Stray Kids had ground to a halt, the company placing them on an indefinite hiatus that had shocked the industry. But the truth, when it finally came out, had shifted the world’s perspective. The remaining six members had been unflinchingly honest. They had spoken of the abuse, the trauma, and the reality of Seungmin’s regression. The fans, the Stays who had promised to walk with them, had largely stayed, turning their collective energy into a protective shield around the broken vocalist.

In the quiet of their restructured dorm, the air no longer felt like it was holding its breath. It was a Tuesday morning, or perhaps a Wednesday—time didn't mean much to Seungmin anymore. He lived in a world of soft colors, plush textures, and the constant, grounding presence of Lee Minho.

Seungmin stirred against the pillows of the massive king-sized bed he now shared with Minho. He didn't wake up screaming anymore, but he never woke up fully "big." The trauma had carved a deep canyon in his psyche, and his mind preferred the safety of the shallow waters. He was three. Maybe four on a good day. But mostly, he was just Minnie.

The first thing he felt was the familiar ache in his jaw. His thumb was tucked firmly into his mouth, the skin pruned and sore. It was a habit no one tried to break anymore; it was his anchor.

"Good morning, sunshine," a voice murmured beside him.

Seungmin blinked, his long lashes fluttering. Minho was already awake, propped up on one elbow, his eyes soft and clear. He didn't look like the fierce dancer the world knew; he looked like a man who had found his purpose in the quiet moments of caretaking.

Seungmin didn't speak. He simply shifted closer, burying his face in Minho’s chest. He let out a small, muffled whimper, his hand reaching out to find Minho’s.

"I know, baby. Thumb out," Minho whispered gently. He reached down and teased Seungmin’s damp thumb away from his lips.

Immediately, Seungmin’s lower lip began to tremble. The void left by his thumb felt like a physical wound. Before the first sob could break, Minho replaced the void with his own index finger. Seungmin latched onto it instantly, his eyes closing in relief as he began to suckle with a rhythmic, needy desperation.

Minho sighed, a sound of both love and lingering sadness. "You’re okay. Hyung’s got you. We have a big day today, remember? We promised the fans a little update."

Seungmin made a soft, questioning noise around Minho’s finger.

"Just a short stream," Minho explained, using his free hand to stroke the back of Seungmin’s neck. "Just to show them you’re eating well and playing. They miss you, Minnie."

It took an hour to get Seungmin ready. Every movement was a delicate dance. When Minho pulled the oversized yellow sweater over Seungmin’s head, the fabric caught for a moment, revealing the faint, jagged silvery lines across his shoulder blades. The scars from the belt would never truly fade, a permanent map of the six years he had spent in hell. Minho’s breath hitched every time he saw them, but he always followed the sight with a lingering kiss to the scarred skin, a silent vow to never let it happen again.

"There," Minho said, smoothing down Seungmin’s hair. "You look like a little lemon. So bright."

Seungmin looked at himself in the mirror, his eyes drifting. For a fleeting second, the fog cleared. He saw the twenty-five-year-old man staring back, the sharp jawline, the professional singer. The "Big" Seungmin tried to push through, the one who remembered the lyrics to 'Levanter' and the complex harmonies of 'Hellevator.'

"Hyung?" Seungmin’s voice was suddenly raspier, deeper.

Minho froze, his heart leaping. "Seungminnie? You back with me, honey?"

Seungmin blinked rapidly, his brow furrowing in a way that looked far too old for his current state. "I... the vocals for the new... we need to..." He trailed off, his hand shaking. He looked at his own reflection and then at his hands, as if they belonged to a stranger. "It hurts, Minho-hyung. My head... it’s too loud."

"It’s okay," Minho said, stepping in close and wrapping his arms around him. "You don't have to stay if it’s too loud. You’ve been big for ten minutes already. That’s a long time."

"I want to be... I want to help the team," Seungmin whispered, his eyes welling with the grief of his lost adulthood. "I’m the lead vocal. I have to..."

But the strain was already visible. His breathing was hitching, his posture slumping. The two-hour limit was a cruel boundary, and today, he wasn't even going to make it that far. The trauma was a tide that always pulled him back under.

"You are helping us just by being here," Minho insisted, his voice firm. "The team is fine. We’re on break, remember? No singing today. Just being Minnie."

Seungmin’s face crumpled. The adult light behind his eyes flickered and died, replaced by the soft, frightened haze of a toddler. He let out a small wail and lunged for Minho’s hand, guiding the elder’s finger back into his mouth as if his life depended on it.

Minho caught him, holding him tight. "That’s it. Come back to hyung. It’s okay. You’re safe."

By the time they set up the camera in the living room, the rest of the members had gathered. Hyunjin was on the floor, sorting through a box of wooden blocks, while Felix was busy in the kitchen making "toddler-friendly" fruit skewers.

"Ready, Minnie?" Hyunjin asked, looking up with a bright smile.

Seungmin was tucked into Minho’s side on the sofa, a plush puppy squeezed under one arm and Minho’s finger firmly in his mouth. He nodded shyly, hiding his face against Minho’s shoulder.

Minho hit the 'Go Live' button on the tablet. Within seconds, the viewer count spiraled into the hundreds of thousands. The comments flooded the screen—a dizzying blur of hearts, crying emojis, and messages of support.

"Hi, Stay," Minho said, waving his free hand at the camera. "We thought we’d check in. It’s been a few weeks since the last post."

Hyunjin leaned into the frame. "Look at our Minnie today! He’s a little lemon. We’re working on a very important castle made of blocks."

Seungmin peeked at the camera, his eyes wide. He saw the hearts floating across the screen and let out a tiny, muffled giggle around Minho’s finger. He reached out a hand toward the tablet, his fingers splaying against the screen as if trying to touch the people on the other side.

"He’s having a good day," Minho told the camera, his voice filled with a quiet pride. "We went for a walk in the private garden earlier. He found a ladybug. Didn't you, Minnie?"

Seungmin nodded vigorously. "Buggie!" he chirped, the word slightly distorted. "Was red! Had spots!"

The comment section exploded. *HE SPOKE!* *Our brave Minnie!* *Minho is the best caregiver, look at how he holds him.* *We love you, Seungmin! Take all the time you need!*

Minho read a few of the comments aloud, his voice low and soothing. He was careful to filter out anything that might be too complex or triggering. The transparency was part of the therapy—the company had realized that hiding Seungmin only fed the rumors and the shame. By showing the world that he was loved, protected, and allowed to be exactly who he was, they were dismantling the power Chan had held over him.

"Someone is asking if Minnie is still practicing his singing," Felix said, coming over to hand Seungmin a piece of strawberry.

Seungmin took the strawberry with his free hand, but he didn't let go of Minho’s finger. He looked at the camera, then at Minho.

"You want to hum for them, baby?" Minho asked softly. "Just a little bit?"

Seungmin hesitated. Music was a complicated trigger. It reminded him of the stage, but it also reminded him of the studio sessions where Chan would scream at him for missing a note. But the warmth of the room and the love in Minho’s eyes gave him a spark of courage.

He closed his eyes and began to hum. It wasn't a Stray Kids song. It was a simple, wordless lullaby that Minho sang to him every night. The melody was thin and fragile, but the tone was still unmistakably Kim Seungmin—pure, crystalline, and hauntingly beautiful.

The chat went silent for a moment, the scrolling slowing as fans took in the sound of a voice they hadn't heard in a year.

When he finished, Seungmin tucked his head back into Minho’s neck, suddenly shy. "Was that good?" he whispered.

"It was perfect," Hyunjin said, his voice thick with unshed tears.

They ended the stream after twenty minutes. It was enough. The world knew he was alive, and more importantly, they knew he was safe.

As the afternoon wore on, the energy in the dorm remained calm. They played with blocks, watched a cartoon about a family of blue dogs, and ate a quiet lunch. But as the sun began to dip below the horizon, the "sundowning" effect began to take hold. It was the hardest part of the day, when the shadows grew long and the echoes of the past seemed to grow louder.

Seungmin became restless. He started pacing the living room, his hand white-knuckled as he gripped his own thumb, his oral fixation becoming frantic.

"No, Minnie. Not the thumb, remember? You’ll make it bleed," Minho warned, intercepting him.

Seungmin let out a frustrated whine, his eyes darting toward the hallway—toward the room that used to be Chan’s, which was now a padlocked storage closet. "Bad room," he whimpered. "The shadows are coming out of the bad room."

"The shadows can't hurt you," Minho said, pulling him into a hug. "I’ve got the lights on. See? No shadows."

But Seungmin was spiraling. His breathing became shallow, and he began to claw at his own arms, his nails digging into the skin near his scars. "I have to be good! If I'm not good, the belt comes! Minnie has to be quiet!"

"Seungmin, look at me!" Minho commanded, his voice sharp enough to break the trance.

Seungmin frozen, his eyes wide and panicked.

Minho immediately softened his tone. He sat on the floor and pulled Seungmin down into his lap, wrapping his legs around the younger man to provide deep pressure. He took Seungmin’s hands in his and held them firmly.

"Give me your mouth," Minho whispered.

Seungmin didn't hesitate. He leaned forward, his lips parted, and latched onto Minho’s finger again. The effect was almost instantaneous. The sensory input of the sucking, combined with the weight of Minho’s body against his, acted like a sedative. The frantic tension bled out of his muscles.

"There we go," Minho breathed, resting his forehead against Seungmin’s. "Focus on the feeling. Just hyung. Just the taste of the skin. Nothing else exists."

They stayed like that for a long time, rocking back and forth on the carpet. The other members moved quietly around them, turning off the big lights and switching on the warm, amber lamps. Felix brought over a weighted blanket, draping it over both of them.

"He’s okay now," Minho whispered to the others, though he didn't move.

"You’re exhausted, hyung," Han said, crouching down beside them. "Let me take over for a bit. My finger is clean."

Minho looked at Seungmin. The little was staring at Han, his eyes glazed and sleepy. Slowly, tentatively, Minho withdrew his finger. Seungmin whimpered, his mouth searching, but before he could panic, Han replaced it with his own.

Seungmin flinched for a second—the texture was different, the scent wasn't 'nho—but Han began to hum a low, vibrating note against Seungmin’s chest. The familiarity of the member, the shared history of seven years, won out. Seungmin settled, his eyes closing as he accepted the substitute.

Minho stood up, his joints popping. He walked to the kitchen and sank into a chair, his head in his hands.

"You're doing a great job, Minho-hyung," Felix said, placing a cup of tea in front of him.

"Is he ever going to get better, Lix?" Minho asked, his voice cracking. "It’s been a year. He’s still so broken. He can't even be himself for two hours without falling apart."

Felix sat down across from him, taking his hand. "Maybe this *is* him now. And maybe that’s okay. He’s not being beaten. He’s not being screamed at. He’s happy 90% of the time, even if he’s three years old. Isn't that better than the last six years?"

Minho looked toward the living room, where Seungmin was now curled up against Han, his small hand clutching Han’s shirt. He looked peaceful. He looked like a child who knew he was loved.

"Yeah," Minho whispered, a ghost of a smile touching his lips. "It’s a million times better."

Later that night, after the dorm had fallen into a deep silence, Minho lay in bed with Seungmin tucked into his side. The younger man was fast asleep, his breathing deep and even. His hand was tucked under his cheek, and for once, his mouth was empty, his jaw relaxed.

Minho reached out and traced the line of Seungmin’s jaw. He thought about the world outside—the industry that was waiting for a comeback, the fans who were waiting for a miracle, and the man in a facility somewhere who had caused all this wreckage.

None of it mattered.

The miracle wasn't a world tour or a Daesang. The miracle was the way Seungmin didn't flinch when the floorboards creaked. The miracle was the way he had hummed that lullaby. The miracle was the fact that he was still here, breathing, in a house where the only belts were the ones kept in closets for fashion, and the only raised voices were raised in laughter.

Seungmin shifted in his sleep, his eyes fluttering open for a brief second. He saw Minho and let out a tiny, contented sigh.

"Love you, 'nho," he whispered, the words slurred with sleep.

"Love you too, Minnie," Minho replied, pulling the covers up to their chin. "Always."

As the moon climbed high over Seoul, the two of them slept—a protector and his charge, bound together by a tragedy that had failed to destroy them, and a love that had proven itself to be the only thing strong enough to hold the pieces together. The scars were there, and the finger in the mouth was a constant reminder of the void that needed filling, but in the quiet of the night, Kim Seungmin was finally, truly, whole.
